Dopo un paio di film di discreto successo, nei primi anni Cinquanta Scotti inizia a lavorare con i grandi nomi del teatro italiano. Da simpatico e ruspante caratterista di un tempo, Tino Scotti matura diventato un ottimo attore impegnato. Nel 1959 accetta la proposta per recitare in alcuni spot di Carosello. Nasce “Basta la parola”, una serie di pubblicità in cui Scotti ritrova la comicità e lo spirito dei primi anni di teatro. In ogni episodio l’attore cerca di spiegare significato ed etimologia delle parole difficili, finendo regolarmente per impappinarsi e confondersi. Soltanto la frase “Succede sempre così con una parola poco usata ma quando si dice Falqui: basta la parola!” riporta pace nello scompiglio linguistico creato da Scotti.
