Il disastro del Challenger in Super 8

In questo periodo i video inediti del disastro dello Shuttle Challenger saltano fuori come funghi. Dopo quello che vi avevo segnalato a fine febbraio, l’Huffington Post ha da poco pubblicato un nuovo filmato girato questa volta su pellicola Super 8. Il video fu realizzato a pochi chilometri di distanza dalla rampa di lancio di Cape Canaveral in Florida da Jeffrey Ault, che all’epoca aveva 19 anni. Come accaduto ad altri video amatoriali analoghi sull’incidente, la pellicola è rimasta per decenni chiusa in una scatola senza essere vista. La scorsa settimana, dopo 26 anni, Ault l’ha ritrovata e l’Huffington Post l’ha diffusa oggi in esclusiva online.

Il filmato mostra le fasi immediatamente precedenti al lancio, la partenza dello Shuttle e la sua esplosione in cielo dopo 73 secondi di volo. Ault doveva avere affianco a sé alcuni spettatori italiani, le cui voci si sentono distintamente mentre commentano le fasi della partenza e l’incidente. Il video è probabilmente l’unica registrazione amatoriale del disastro realizzata su pellicola.

    si sentono le voci di alcuni imbecilli italiani che dicono “scattane molte di fotografie” e poi quando lo shuttle si disperde una dice “bellissimo” come se fossero fuochi di artificio.

    Io credo che per dire cose simili quelle persone nemmeno avevano realizzato che lo Shuttle era esploso (per quanto evidente poteva essere).

    Nessuno, neppure i turisti americani si era accorto che non era un lancio “normale” finché non lo ha detto la voce sull’altoparlante… Nel frattempo “So Beautiful!!”

    E’ chiaro che non l’avessero capito. Molto probabilmente era la prima volta che vedevano dal vivo un lancio. Stiano parlando di 26 anni fa, i lanci si vedevano in tv, non era una cosa di cui si potessero capire i dettagli e sopratutto capire che quacosa stava andando storto. Troppo facile giudicare con la consapevolezza di oggi.

    Le immagini dell’incidente sono notevolmente ravvicinate dallo zoom della cinepresa. All’inizio della ripresa, alla partenza , si percepisce molto bene la dimensione dell’oggetto dal punto di vista degli spettatori che, data la distanza, non potevano certo capire quello che stava succedendo.

    È vero che all’inizio si potrebbe pensare che è tutto regolare, ma poi quando vedi che non c’è più nessuna scia diritta inizi a pensare che qualcosa è andato storto. Non mi sembra serva tanto a capirlo. È una donna solamente che non ha capito cosa è successo, tant’è che solo alla fine le dicono che è scoppiato. Anzi risentendolo mi pare che anche un uomo, forse il marito, non avesse afferrato.
